DEWALT Pipe Threader: DCE700, Die Heads & 12-R Compatibility

The DEWALT DCE700 is a portable 60V MAX threader for 1/2–2 inch-class NPT work. Its key compatibility advantage is DEWALT-documented support for RIDGID 12-R-style die heads, in addition to DEWALT's own head and die system.

Compatibility first

This page separates the power tool from the jaw, ring or die-head family required for the actual connection. A matching size alone does not establish approval.

DEWALT DCE700: a cordless 2-inch portable threader

The DCE700 is DEWALT's FLEXVOLT 60V MAX portable pipe threader. Current DEWALT documentation places it in the 1/2–2 inch range for black iron pipe, rigid conduit and similar NPT work. It is not a stationary threading machine: the tool is carried to the pipe and uses a reaction clamp/die arm arrangement to control threading torque.

The most important ecosystem detail is the die-head interface. DEWALT sells its own complete NPT die heads, but it also explicitly states that the DCE700 is compatible with RIDGID 12-R-style die heads. That creates a useful path for contractors with an existing 12-R head inventory, while still requiring the right head, die material and thread standard for the job.

Complete die heads vs replacement dies

Two different compatibility questions are easy to mix up. A complete die head has the drive interface that engages the threader. A replacement die set is the group of cutters installed inside a particular head. DEWALT's complete DCE700 heads are documented as compatible with the RIDGID 700 Power Drive 12-R style. By contrast, DEWALT's replacement-die pages state that those cutters are intended for the corresponding DCE700 head.

That distinction matters when reusing existing equipment. Owning a 12-R head family can make the DCE700 attractive, but it does not mean every loose 12-R or DEWALT cutter set should be mixed across head bodies without documentation.

Frequently asked questions

What pipe sizes can the DEWALT DCE700 thread?

DEWALT's current DCE700 kit documentation covers 1/2 through 2 inch black iron pipe and rigid conduit with right-hand NPT die heads.

Is the DEWALT DCE700 compatible with RIDGID 12-R die heads?

DEWALT states that the DCE700 is compatible with RIDGID 12-R-style die heads. DEWALT also notes that RIDGID has not manufactured, approved or endorsed the DEWALT product, so the claim should be read as DEWALT's compatibility statement rather than RIDGID approval.

What die heads are available for the DCE700?

DEWALT sells DCE700 NPT die heads with high-speed-steel dies in 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2 and 2 inch sizes.

Can DEWALT DCE700 replacement dies be used in RIDGID 12-R heads?

DEWALT describes its replacement die packs as compatible only with the corresponding DEWALT DCE700 die head. Do not infer that the replaceable cutters interchange simply because complete DCE700 heads can fit a RIDGID 700-style drive.

Is the DCE700 a stationary threading machine?

No. It is a cordless portable power-drive-style threader. Stationary machines such as the RIDGID 300 or 535 integrate workholding and often cutting/reaming/oiling functions in a different workflow.

How does the DCE700 compare with Milwaukee 2874 and RIDGID 700?

All three can serve portable 2-inch-class threading work, but they differ in power platform, reaction system, die-head ecosystem and manufacturer-documented compatibility. Use the Pipe Threader Finder for a job-specific comparison.
