The RP 251 is RIDGID's latest Compact Series press tool. It keeps the 24 kN Compact attachment ecosystem while changing the tool around it: 360-degree swivel, brushless motor, lower weight, no scheduled maintenance and current support for ProPress, MegaPress, PureFlow and selected HVAC/R systems.

What “all RIDGID Compact Series jaws, rings and actuators” means
RIDGID explicitly states that the RP 251 is compatible with all RIDGID Compact Series jaws, rings and actuators. That is unusually useful for an owner upgrading from a prior Compact model because it preserves the tool-family boundary.
It does not mean every Compact-labeled jaw from every manufacturer is approved. Current RIDGID cross-reference data lists fitting-system-specific combinations, including ProPress through 1-1/4 inches, MegaPress jaws through 1 inch and compact rings through 3/4 inch, PureFlow through 1-1/2 inches and RLS jaws through 1-3/8 inches.
RP 251 support for HVAC/R press systems
RIDGID's current cross-reference guide gives the Compact family meaningful HVAC/R coverage. It lists RLS ACR through 1-3/8 inches with Compact Series RLS jaws. The same guide lists >B< MaxiPro and ZoomLock MAX with specific approved Rothenberger compact jaw families and smaller compact size limits.
This is exactly where “the tool has enough force” is not sufficient. Refrigeration systems have their own jaw profiles and approvals. Use the compatibility finder to separate the tool family from the fitting-system attachment.
RP 251 vs. RP 241
Both are 24 kN Compact Series tools, which is why RP 241 owners should compare them as generations of the same attachment platform. RIDGID's current RP 251 specifications show a 3.57-pound tool-only weight, 360-degree swivel, brushless motor rated for more than 60,000 press cycles and no scheduled maintenance. Current RP 241 documentation lists a 180-degree head and a scheduled service interval.
The RP 251 also raises the published carbon-steel capacity from 3/4 inch on the RP 241 catalog sheet to 1 inch. For copper/stainless and PEX, the headline capacity bands remain similar, so the upgrade value can be more about access, weight and maintenance than simply gaining larger ProPress sizes.
RP 251 vs. RP 350
The RP 251 should not be judged by whether it can replace every Standard Series application. It cannot—and that is the point of a Compact tool. The RP 251 is 3.57 pounds tool-only and supports the smaller Compact attachment ecosystem. The RP 350 is 7.1 pounds tool-only, 32 kN and supports Standard jaws/rings into much larger applications.
If 1-1/4-inch copper, 1-inch carbon steel and 1-1/2-inch PEX cover your normal work, Compact can save weight all day. If 2-inch MegaPress/PureFlow or 2-1/2-to-4-inch work is routine, Standard Series becomes the more appropriate platform.
Current RP 251 kit numbers and attachment continuity
RIDGID lists 78188 as the RP 251 tool-only catalog number. The 78148 battery kit includes Compact ProPress jaws from 1/2 through 1-1/4 inches; 78158 is a smaller ProPress-jaw kit. Those numbers are useful when comparing listings because a kit with a full Compact jaw set is not economically equivalent to a bare tool.
For an RP 241 owner, the more important point is that RIDGID explicitly describes RP 251 as compatible with all RIDGID Compact Series jaws, rings and actuators. That provides a manufacturer-supported migration path for a genuine Compact attachment inventory, subject to the current fitting-system matrix.
